About Us

Hannah-Lee Lawrence
BA (Music)
ARCT (Associate of the Royal Conservatory,Toronto)
piano, flute, music theory & history
I have over seventeen years of experience teaching music to students from a wide range of ages, nationalities and levels. I love to teach both children and adults! My goals for my students are to become proficient on their instrument, to become well-rounded musicians (in the areas of performance, theory and history), and most of all to enjoy making music. While assisting students in reaching these goals, I am mindful that each student is an individual, and tailor my instruction accordingly.

Eric Lawrence
BSc, BEd
guitar, drums
I am a teacher and a singer-songwriter with a passion for all things musical. I have shared this love with many students over the years through teaching private and group guitar lessons and co-directing a high school concert band. My goals for my students include becoming proficient on their instrument and finding personal satisfaction and joy in their playing & performing. I also like to give my students the opportunity to do some recording in the studio as we are equipped with recording equipment.

Interesting Odds and Ends
*Eric was born and raised in the country of Papua New Guinea...Can you find it on a map?
*Hannah-Lee grew up in Tarbutt Township and has been playing the piano since she was five.
*Eric and Hannah-Lee have spent more time together living overseas than in Canada.  They were in Singapore for three years...Turkey for six years...Papua New Guinea for one year. If you look around the loft you will see lots of artwork and pottery from the places they've lived and visited.
*Our cat is from Singapore. Her name is Ophelia and she was born with a kink at the end of her tail. She is our friendly mascot who will greet you when you come for your lesson, if she's not curled up sleeping somewhere!

  1. Hi Eric,

I'd very much like to get in touch with you to ask you some questions about your experience with the OLPC project in Tekin.

Some background: We met long ago at your house in Divanap when you were a boy. Your father and mother kindly invited my wife, Maryl, and me to dinner (1980). Prior to that time, I'd stayed with Tom Moylan and Virginia Guilford (1978) in Bak (Kweptanap).

I was in Tekin last June, July, and also stayed for a few days at your old house in Divanap (we hired Radio to help cook). One of the purposes of my visit was to study the recent history of the implementation and current state of the OLPC project. Simon Nimyon showed us the quicktime movie that you'd made and described your supportive activities with the implementation. Would you be available for an interview? I'd like to learn more about the support that you'd provided after the XOs arrived in the community. My email address: saxe@berkeley.edu

If you're interested, I published a book and created a supportive website for the book at the following url: http://www.culturecognition.com/ The title is 'Cultural development of mathematical ideas: Papua New Guinea studies' -- the focus of the book is the recent historical transformations in the traditional Oksapmin counting system.

Thanks very much for reading this and very much you get in touch!!
